Conference by Inocencio Arias in San Diego

On November 13, 2007, Mr. Inocencio Arias, Consul General of Spain in Los Angeles, gave a conference on the United Nations at the School of Leadership and Education Sciences (SOLES) of the University of San Diego, California. The event was part of a program to encourage the internationalization of SOLES.

Mr. Arias's conference focused on the role of the United Nations in the XXI century and analized its most recent missions and projects. Arias reviewed the history of the UN, its founding and objectives. He described a number of problems in the organization present since its creation, and gave his personal opinion on the military intervention in Iraq.

Present at the event, which was attended by students and Spaniards residing in the area, was the Honorary Consul of Spain in San Diego, Ms. María de los Ángeles O'Donnell. The People's Party of Spain in the United States was represented by Nuria De Francisco, territorial delegate in California.

Inocencio Arias Arias is a member of the Spanish diplomatic corps since 1967. He was Director of the Office of Diplomatic Information, Deputy Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Ibero-American Affairs, Under Secretray of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Permanent Representative and Ambassador to the United Nations. Currently, he is the Consul General of Spain in Los Angeles. Inocencio Arias has received more than 30 awards, has taught International Relations, and was the General Director of Real Madrid, a Spanish soccer club. He has written several books, among them "Confesiones de un diplomático", "Los tres mitos del Real Madrid"and "Del 11S al 11M".
